As a result of tireless efforts by the Phoenix Mayor and Council, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will soon offer nonstop flights between Phoenix and Frankfurt, Germany with Condor Airlines, part of the Thomas Cook Group. Service is expected to commence in 2018 with flights offered May through September on Mondays and Fridays between Phoenix Sky Harbor and the Frankfurt Airport.

As the fifth largest city in the country, Phoenix is taking strides to make downtown a more bikeable and walkable city. The Urban Phoenix Project is working to create a comprehensive bicycle network connecting the downtown business district with surrounding neighborhoods. Six projects impacting downtown are in the works, which will add things like cycle tracks (two-way bike lanes), landscaping enhancements, signage, lighting and ADA improvements.

The founders of the Arizona Taco Festival are partnering with The Camby, a luxury lifestyle urban hotel, to throw an exciting event on National Guacamole Day, Sept. 16, 2017, called Rock The Guac. Calling all pizza lovers. The 3rd Annual Phoenix Pizza Festival will feature approximately 15 pizza vendors, dessert food trucks, craft beer stations, related food vendors and festival with lawn games, live bands, and a kid’s craft zone. The Phoenix Pizza Festival has again partnered with Downtown Phoenix Inc. as a charity beneficiary. This community development group promotes the revitalization of downtown by supporting events and local businesses. The festival will take place on Saturday, November 18 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Margaret T. Hance Park. It is priced at $10 for entry, and pizza vendors will serve $2-$4 slices, full pies and everything in between. It is suggested to purchase tickets online, as they are expected to sell out before gates open.

Fashion is extensive at the Phoenix Art Museum. A Tribute to James Galanos opens in mid-August paying homage to the late American designer (1924-2016) with an exhibition spanning five decades of his designs from the permanent collection and private lenders, as well as never before seen photographs from his personal archives. A supporter of the Museum’s programs, Galanos personally donated a group of his designs to the fashion collection in 1990 and participated in several of its events. Highlights will include gowns made for Galanos’ clients including Sybil Harrington, Kitty Carlyle Hart, Nancy Reagan, Ann Bonefory Taylor and Marie Vanderbilt Whitney as well as contemporary collectors including Tatiana Sorokko, and Susan Byram. On display in the Ellman Fashion Design Gallery, the exhibit will be available Aug. 19, 2017 through Jan. 7, 2018. 

The former Phoenix Motor Company dealership has transformed into The Van Buren, a music venue with three bars, a mezzanine and an Arizona desert landscape mural. Located in close proximity to a variety of food and entertainment options, The Van Buren is an absolute must for a night out in downtown Phoenix. Phx Rising Tour Co. teams up with the “Boo Crew” at Phoenix Ghost Tours to offering a monthly downtown Phoenix Walking Ghost Tour. Desert Botanical Garden announces its fall season with a dazzling array of exhibitions and events to help you enjoy the beauty of the desert. Tuned in. Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) announces the 2017 fall concert series offering more than forty-five concerts showcasing award-winning singer-songwriters, global musicians, and many more. Performances include: Irma Thomas and the Blind Boys of Alabama with the Preservation Hall Legacy Quintent; The Sachal Ensemble; Leyla McCalla; Loudon Wainwright III; and many more. Experience an intimate look at the instruments, videos and over 40 images displayed at Pueblo Grande Museum’s One World, Many Voices: The Artistry of Canyon Records. This immersive exhibit of portrait photography provides audiences an intimate look at Native American musicians and the history of Canyon Records. The story of this unique Arizona business and its role as a platform for Native American music and expression, come alive through the camera lens of Robert Doyle, Canyon Records owner. The exhibit is open now through Aug. 31.

The 2017 Arizona Fall League schedule has been released featuring six teams comprised of many of Major League Baseball’s top prospects from every organization. The league plays Monday-Saturday from mid-October through the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving in November in six Phoenix-area spring training Stadiums. Opening day is Oct. 10.
