Beginning in early March, American Airlines is adding non-stop services from Phoenix to three new cities from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The airline -- being a busy carrier with around 300 flights per day --plans to add daily non-stop service to Lubbock, Roswell, N.M. and Midland/Odessa, Texas. American Airlines will be the only airline offering non-stop service to the Sky Harbor Airport.

The Frida Kahlo exhibit is displayed at Heard Museum now through February 8, on loan from the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City. The exhibit features over 200 photos and is broken into six categories: The Origins; The Blue House; Politics, Revolutions and Diego; Her Broken Body; Frida’s Loves and Photography.  The Frida Kahlo- Her Photos exhibit will feature photographs taken by Man Ray, Martin Munckácsi, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, Nickolas Murray and many others. The images are meant to give guests a very intimate and personal view into Kahlo’s life and exhibits personal history about the artist and time period.

Desert Botanical Garden celebrates its 38th year of Las Noches de las Luminarias. This is one of Arizona's best holiday events. For 16 nights the Garden will come to life with the soft glow from more than 8,000 hand-lit luminaria bags, thousands of white twinkle lights and the vibrant sounds and sights of 10 entertainment groups. Stroll each path with a warm cup of cider or cocoa – and for this year enjoy an extra special treat with Bruce Munro’s light exhibition currently on display.

Local Artist Jesse Perry is well known for his mural work in downtown Phoenix with an emphasis on cartoonist characters, bright colors and satire. Most recently, Perry shared that he has created a street-art scavenger hunt in downtown Phoenix with 31 installations of street art. Each piece of art hidden in downtown Phoenix is strategically placed and is intended to evoke emotion. Phoenix residents who spot a Jesse Perry art piece in downtown Phoenix can use the hashtag #founditphxff and are encouraged to tag the artist, @mrdowntownphx. 

For the sixth year in a row, close to 200,000 holiday revelers will descend upon CityScape Phoenix to take part in the seven weeks of CitySkate, the Valley’s largest real outdoor ice rink, presented by APS. Central Avenue is transformed into an ice skater’s dream with a massive 36-foot holiday tree dramatically placed in the center of the rink along with hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights. The tree will dazzle guests with nightly light shows at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Bystanders watching over the rink from Patriots Park will enjoy a nightly snowfall during the same hours. Santa will make an appearance every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for photos from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The rink, presented by APS, is open daily from Nov. 28 through Jan. 11 with special events happening most days of the week.

The Phoenix Symphony will be kicking off the 2016 with amazing shows beginning in January. Hear The Phoenix Symphony perform highlights from over 60 years of John Williams scores, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, E. T.: The Extra Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, Jaws and more on January 2 at 7:30 p.m. Maestro Muñoz presents a rare treat of an all-Mozart program, including Overture to Le Nozze di Figaro, Concerto No. 20, Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Symphony No. 39 on January 8 at 11 a.m. Bop along to catchy, tongue-twisting tunes like “Conjunction Junction,” “Mother Necessity” and “I’m Just a Bill,” that combine scholastic themes and popular classical music on Janurary 10. Beatlemania, the premier Beatles tribute band joins your Phoenix Symphony in a show you'll never forget on January 29 at 7:30 p.m., as the group performs 50 years of timeless Beatles’ hits from “Please, Please Me” all the way to “Abby Road.” 

First Fridays are being offered at the Heard Museum, with free admission from 6 to 10 p.m. every First Friday of each month except March. In December, the theme is “New at NU” (Native + You) with music and great food.  Visitors can enjoy the Heard’s 12 exhibit galleries, nationally-acclaimed Courtyard Café and gourmet drinks at the Coffee Cantina, and see the best in Native art at the Heard Shops. 

Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, on November 20, became a certified Smithsonian Affiliate museum, making it a recognized partner with the world’s largest museum and research complex. Becoming a Smithsonian Affiliate opens the door to a variety of benefits to Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. These include not only loans of iconic artifacts and cultural treasures, but also education programming, expert speakers, and career development for museum professionals. In addition to sharing artifacts from the Smithsonian’s vast collection, the affiliate relationship will provide Scottsdale’s Museum of the West with opportunities to collaborate on innovative educational programming to help students understand the legacy of the West and their own role in shaping it. As a celebration of the Cowboy Artists of America’s 50th anniversary, the Scottsdale Museum of the West is presenting, “A Salute to Cowboy Artists of America and a Patron, the Late Eddie Basha: 50 Years of Amazing Contributions to the American West.”  The exhibition serves as a thank you for the contributions of its 77 artists to fine art and western culture. The exhibition opened on Saturday, November 7 and will run through May 31, 2016. It features paintings and sculptures that have rarely been seen by the public eye.

Uptown Farmers Market is partnering with local restaurants, chefs and C-Cap to host a Neighborhood Chef Series at the Uptown Farmers Market. The Series will run every Saturday, occurring now through January 2016. Every week there will be a different local chef featured with a restaurant close to the Uptown neighborhood, between 7th Street and 7th Avenue. Fuchsia Spa will open its first franchise location on High Street on Saturday, Dec. 12, bringing its affordable, results-driven skincare services to Northeast Phoenix. The College Football Playoff (CFP) announces events that will take place in Arizona the weekend of the national championship game, including an interactive event for fans, concert series, pregame festivities at University of Phoenix Stadium and philanthropic events. Playoff Fan Central, a festival that will give fans the opportunity to be a part of the championship experience, will be at the Phoenix Convention Center. The event will include interactive games, sponsor activities, special guest appearances and exhibits celebrating college football. Playoff Fan Central will also feature appearances by the participating institutions’ bands, cheerleaders and mascots and mini pep rallies for each participating team. On Saturday, attendees will have the opportunity to watch media day live, as student-athletes and coaches from both teams participate in interviews on the special 50-yard football field. 

The countdown to the 2017 NCAA Men's Final Four began when the NCAA and the Phoenix Local Organizing Committee unveiled the logo of Phoenix's first Final Four and announced plans for an NCAA Legacy Restorations project at Harmon Park in central Phoenix. The NCAA Legacy Restorations project will refurbish an outdoor basketball court at Harmon Park, which annually serves more than 18,000 neighborhood children, many of them underprivileged. This is the first of numerous community projects that will be undertaken as the Valley prepares to host the 2017 Final Four, set for April 1 and April 3, 2017 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. 

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the Copa America Centenario Local Organizing Committee (LOC) announced that Phoenix has been selected as one of the 10 U.S. metropolitan areas to host matches during the historic Copa America Centenario played from June 3 to 26, 2016. The University of Phoenix Stadium was assigned to host the Copa American matches during the tournament. Traditionally featuring the top teams of South America, the tournament will be played on U.S. grounds and include CONCACAF teams like the United States and Mexico. Similar to the FIFA World Cup, each venue will host matches on multiple days through the tournament. Most venues will host at least three games.
