PHOENIX (June 22, 2009) — Chicago is Donn Oswald’s kind of town.
Oswald, the Associate Director of Convention Sales at the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau, is adding the Windy City to his sales territory, and he could not imagine a more logical expansion of his duties.
“I grew up in Chicago, lived there 19 years,” Oswald said. “My first job in the hospitality industry was setting up tables and chairs for meetings and events in the southwest suburbs.”
Chicago is the heart of the Midwest market for the Greater Phoenix CVB. Oswald also will be handling convention sales in Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa and the rest of Illinois.
Oswald is a 21-year veteran of the hospitality industry and has worked in the Greater Phoenix CVB’s sales department for the past five years. Before coming to Phoenix, Oswald spent seven years in Salt Lake City, where he worked for the Salt Lake CVB, Grand America Hotel, and Snowbird Conference Resort and Spa.
Oswald’s sales markets at the Greater Phoenix CVB also include fraternal organizations and religious groups. He is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA), Association Forum of Chicagoland and Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks.
The native Chicagoan says he prefers the White Sox to the Cubs, and looks forward to Midwest sales visits that include deep-dish pizza and Chicago Style Hot Dogs.
“I’m also excited about the opportunity to tell my fellow Midwesterners that sunshine and warm weather aren’t the only reasons to bring their meetings to Phoenix these days,” Oswald said, referring to the $600 million expansion of the Phoenix Convention Center and recent debut of the 1,000-room Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. “That’s a nice message to be able to carry back home.”
