Our marketing intern Diva dined at The Salt Cellar Restaurant and wanted to share her experience. Bon appétit!

Since 1971, The Salt Cellar Restaurant in Scottsdale has been providing greater Phoenix with fresh seafood, a warm atmosphere, and a unique location. It is my new favorite place to have a romantic dinner and savor my favorite seafood. All the fish is seasonal and is shipped in from around the world from spots such as Hawaii, Boston, Alaska, all the way to New Zealand and more. For those not so into seafood, the Salt Cellar also has Black Angus choice cut steaks, a chicken entre, and a beef Wellington.

Did I mention that the restaurant is also underground? I know, shocking! To get to this hideaway, my date and I followed the three flights of antique wooden stairs where we were greeted at the bottom by the hostess and live lobsters in a tank. Since we were early for our reservation, we decided to check out the Salt Cellar’s happy hour which is daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (they also have a late night happy hour from 10 p.m. to closing at 1 a.m). The assorted happy hour menu ranged from oysters Rockefeller, halibut ceviche, steamed mussels, escargot en caps, Long Island oyster shot, and more.

And speaking of the Long Island oyster shot, my date was brave enough to try one. The shot consisted of a raw oyster, hot sauce, lemon juice, black pepper, and your choice of vodka on top. He ended up loving it and would definitely be back for another. I, on the other hand, love my oysters cooked but maybe one day I will scrounge up the nerve to try one.

Are you brave enough to try a oyster shot?

After we finished our happy hour experience, we sat down for dinner in the cozy dining room that was lit by lanterns. We looked at the menu and had a hard time choosing just one entree to have for dinner. The array of options had our mouths watering. The dinner menu ranged from king crab legs, sautéed sea scallops, New England-style clam bake, New York strip steak, pan fried oysters, filet mignon, yakimono Hawaiian ahi, Maine lobster, and the list goes on. How does one choose? Let’s just say there is something to surely satisfy most every taste or craving.

As seasons change, so do some parts of the Salt Cellar menu. But, you can be sure to expect the same wide variety of seafood selections flown in fresh daily. With the delicious food and enchanting atmosphere, the Salt Cellar is a memorable place to enjoy a meal. I will definitely be back to see what’s new underground at the Salt Cellar.
