College football festivities: January 1-2

On Friday, Notre Dame and Ohio State will take the field for the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl, while West Virginia and Greater Phoenix’s own Arizona State will duke it out in Saturday’s Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. Passionate tailgaters can kick off celebrations at the Fan Fest or Oasis pregame parties. You don’t have to be a football fan to enjoy the free Fiesta Bowl Parade on Saturday, when colorful floats, bands and balloons will march a two-mile route in Central Phoenix.

Music of John Williams at Phoenix Symphony: January 2-3

Where else can you journey from Hogwarts to a galaxy far, far away this weekend? Composer John Williams is the man behind the music of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and more beloved film favorites. Join the Phoenix Symphony for two performances of William’s memorable orchestrations.

Zoppé, An Italian Family Circus: Through January 3

The circus is coming to town in a touring, old-world Italian tradition presented by the Zoppé family. Giovanni, a sixth-generation circus performer, steps into the ring as Nino the clown to direct a menagerie of acrobats, clever canines, horses and more.
