From hitting the waves to golf and concerts after dark, stay cool with our top things to do in Phoenix this weekend:
Surfing on Central: Through September 1
Surf’s up in downtown Phoenix this summer! Skip the drive to the Pacific and make your way to CityScape where, for a limited time, just $10 will get you 30 minutes of boogie boarding fun on the FlowRider® wave machine. Head down there Thursday nights where ladies can get two sessions for the price of one, and Saturday nights to see the pros do their thing on the waves. Check the Surfing on Central website for more details and special events.
Update: They’re currently running a new special! A 30-minute session is just $5 and includes a free gelato from Chloe’s Corner.
Experience France at the Musical Instrument Museum: July 12-13
It’s all things France this weekend at the MIM. Live music, French guitar demonstrations and hand-on activities such as sketching lessons are just a few of the planned festivities. The museum’s Cafe Allegro will pleasure your palate with French-inspired cuisine and wine each afternoon from 11-2. Get the full rundown of events at MIM’s website.
Night flight golf at Palo Verde: July 12
Let the summer sun set and tee it up under the stars this weekend at Palo Verde golf course. Round up three pals, done your glow necklace and compete for the top prizes. Glow balls and flashlights included, but make sure you put on your walking shoes – no driving carts through the dark.
Junior architect tours at Taliesin West: Thursday-Monday through August 31
Got an inspiring artist or architect in the family? This tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert masterpiece is specially designed for school-age children and their parents. Kids will learn how shapes, colors and patterns of nature all influenced the works of Wright. After exploring the grounds, creative kids will get to put their artistic skills to work and show off what they learned with a drawing session.
Free summer concerts at Kierland Commons: July 12, 19, 26
After indulging in some retail therapy, lay out a blanket, kick back and enjoy the free tunes this weekend at Kierland Commons shopping center. This week’s artist is contemporary country band Zona Road. We recommend grabbing some dinner at drinks before the show at Zinc Bistro, NoRTH, The Greene House, or one of the other delicious restaurants at Kierland Commons.
