No need to worry about a little sunshine: We’ve got cool beer, cooler water, and an ice-themed evening at the zoo on our top things to do in Phoenix this weekend.

Prowl & Play at the Phoenix Zoo: June 13
Kids can run wild at the zoo’s ice-themed evening of crafts, character meet and greets, water slides and up-close critter encounters. Watch a few zoo animals dig in to icy treats, and treat yourself to your own glass of wine or cold beer.

Hosted by the Irish Cultural Center, the “Bloomsday” holiday beerfest features specialty drinks, music and performances, and readings from Joyce’s acclaimed novel Ulysses.

Catch a play at the theater

Also be sure to catch Herberger Theater Center’s Into the Woods and An Almost Holy Picture, Desert Stages Theatre’s Rumors, and Phoenix Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors.

Family Weekend at the Musical Instrument Museum: June 13-14
MIM invites families to celebrate their heritage and discover instruments from around the world. The program offers crafts and opportunities to play unique instruments, as well a chance to step back and enjoy international dance, drum, and guitar performances.

Heed the call of the wild
Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day, so take advantage of Phoenix’s nearby lakes and rivers for some outdoor fun. Whether you like to swim, ski, boat, kayak, raft, tube or just get your feet wet, consider spending the day at Lake Pleasant, taking a guided raft or kayak tour, or tubing the Salt River. (Salt River Tubing is hosting a pirate-themed event this Saturday, so be sure to dress up and practice your arrrr‘s.) Check out our website for more Phoenix water recreation ideas.
