Spice up the end of the week with the flavors of a Latin street party, craft beers on tap along a self-guided ale trail, and a spicy culinary cook-off. It’s all on our top things to do in Phoenix this weekend:
Mesa Arts Center Latin Street Festival: September 11
This annual celebration kicks off the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum’s seasonal reopening with a vibrant street festival featuring Latin music, dance competitions and artist demonstrations. Grab a partner for social dance lessons with Ballet Hispanico, and enjoy an outdoor performance from Chicano rock group Los Lonely Boys. The street party and admission to the museum are free—be sure to browse the five new featured exhibitions.

Marine Week: September 11-13
Over 600 members of the United States Marine Corps will be performing band concerts, demonstrating martial arts, and showcasing equipment and aircraft to the public. You can catch activities in areas like Civic Space Park and the University of Phoenix Stadium throughout the weekend. See the full lineup of events on the Marine Week website.
Downtown Phoenix Urban Ale Trail: September 12
To trek this trail, you’ll want to lace up your good shoes and pack a few urban hiking essentials: light rail pass, ID, and a phone to track your journey. The Urban Ale Trail routes you along downtown’s light rail corridor to over 25 participating bars for $1-$2 tastes of craft beer and complimentary bar bites.
Tip: If you’re one of the first 300 people to start your route at District American Kitchen, you’ll take home a free growler to commemorate the hoppy hike.
Scottsdale Spice Culinary Event: September 12
More than 30 local chefs bring the heat to attendees in this flavorful culinary competition. Sample dishes to vote for your favorite, and see how your tastebuds fare against the festival’s “nuclear” heat category.

Shrine Circus at WestWorld: September 11-13
The circus comes to town this weekend with seven performances of daredevil stunts and animal antics. Kids under 12 can see it all for free: Just head to the Shrine Circus website and print out the complimentary pass to show at the gate (a paying adult must attend). Stop in before the show for activities like face painting and elephant rides.
