The team at SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium® is out for blood when Shark Week kicks off Sunday, July 22, but it’s all for a great cause.
Historically, blood donations take a serious dip during the summer months, leaving hospitals and patients in desperate need of donors. With this year marking the 30th anniversary of the Discovery Channel’s iconic summer programming celebrating the mysterious, awe-inspiring creatures of the deep, SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium opted to partner with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive ahead of a week of special programming at the attraction.
Anyone who stops by SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22 to donate blood at the tables set up just outside will receive two complimentary passes to the aquarium. Donors can use the passes to check out Shark Week interactive exhibits, special artifacts and the 20 sharks spanning seven different species who currently call the aquarium home. Visitors can also play “Touch a Shark” in the aquarium’s tide pools, getting hands-on experience with baby epaulettes hailing from the waters off Australia and New Guinea. With bamboo reef sharks, zebra sharks, shark-themed activities and more in store for visitors, there’ll be plenty for shark fans to chew on this summer at SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium.
