- Green/Sustainable Practices:
The Shemer Art Center is a neighborhood art center and museum located at the southeast corner of Camelback Road and Arcadia Lane (48th Street) in Phoenix. It was the first home built in Arcadia in 1919. In 1984, it was purchased by Martha Evvard Shemer and donated to the City of Phoenix, not only to preserve the historical property but to also ensure it was used for art education and a community center for city residents. Today the Shemer Art Center has become a cultural center for all ages. It serves as a unique and inviting "home for the arts" - a place to promote and learn about visual arts, through classes, exhibitions and outreach programs. It is a City of Phoenix Point of Pride and in 2015 was named "One of the 10 Best Museums in Phoenix" by USA Today.
