The approach to design and overall ambiance for The Dressing Room is very similar to the emphasis of the cuisine – simple, basic, natural. The goals are as sustainable as they are straightforward: breathe new life into a vacant gem in the heart of Roosevelt Row, and create an overall atmosphere that is as comfortable for breakfast or lunch as it is for a nightcap.
The experience begins at the street with both a view into the dining room, but also through that interior space to the patio beyond. Using the combination of the historic building and a re-purposed ‘dumpster’ turned prep kitchen, the patio helps activate the alleyway and form a new ‘urban room’ intimately gathered under the embrace of a majestic, native Mesquite.
The strategy seeks to honor the history and character of this unique place, leaving much of the old brick walls and concrete floors as found, yet also embracing a new use and commitment to building community through inspired food and thoughtful design.
