In 1971 nine visionaries broke into the ranks of the established bowl system, making Arizona’s first college football bowl game a reality. While the goal of those nine Fiesta Bowl Founders was to put into motion a post-season college football matchup, the organization has grown to be much more than a game. Based in Scottsdale, the Fiesta Bowl hosts a variety of local events each year, as well as two elite bowl games – the Fiesta Bowl and the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. At the core of the organization, though, are Fiesta Bowl Charities, which have contributed more than $8 million to Arizona nonprofits over the past six years. This season is especially exciting, as the rich tradition of the Fiesta Bowl and the new era of the College Football Playoff combine to bring the Valley of the Sun a Playoff Semifinal at the 46th Annual Fiesta Bowl on December 31, 2016. The New Year’s Eve game will kick off at University of Phoenix Stadium at either 1 PM MST or 5 PM MST (time to be determined by the CFP Selection Committee). The 28th Annual Motel 6 Cactus Bowl will be back on the diamond-turned-gridiron for its second year at Chase Field. The Pac-12 vs. Big 12 matchup will be played on December 27, 2016 with an 8:15 PM MST kickoff.
