Valley Suns

The Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns' NBA G League affiliate, will kick off its inaugural season this year at Mullett Arena as Player 15 Group’s third professional sports franchise.  

The new team’s name was inspired by the community, its diverse culture, and its deep-rooted history of the “Valley of the Sun.” The Phoenix Suns hosted a contest to offer fans the chance to name the new NBA G League team, similar to how the Phoenix Suns were named in 1968. Over 12,000 fans submitted ideas for the team's name, with dozens submitting the chosen identity, Valley Suns.  

The Valley Suns logo features flickering “V” and “S” flames coming together to create a spherical Sun-shaped icon. The triangles in the logo portray the rising peaks that surround the Valley of the Sun and symbolize elevation and ascending to reach the top. The team’s orange and purple colors were inspired by the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, aligning the Valley basketball franchises.    

The NBA G League is a proven developer of NBA talent while also acting as the league’s research and development laboratory, testing innovative new rules for NBA adoption. Currently, more than half of the players on NBA rosters have G League experience and the Valley Suns will serve as an opportunity to develop the young talent on the Phoenix Suns roster. 

The 2024-25 NBA G League season structure will include two parts. The first segment is the newly minted 16-game Tip-Off Tournament. All 31 teams will compete in the Tip-Off Tournament which will culminate at the NBA G League Winter Showcase with the Showcase Cup Championship Game. Teams will be separated into four regions where they will play 14 games against one another in said regions in NBA G League markets. For more details, visit the NBA G League website.

Following the Tip-Off Tournament, team records will reset before the 34-game regular season.  At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams in each conference will qualify for the NBA G League Playoffs presented by Google Pixel, which conclude with the NBA G League Finals presented by YouTube TV in April 2025.
